Peterson, Fomasi steal the show on Fan Appreciation Night

Submitted photos – Jerry Peterson celebrates his main event win on Saturday night.

Jerry Peterson and Anthony Fomasi put on a show for North Coast motor sports fans on Saturday, as racing returned to the Redwood Acres Raceway.

The night’s action was presented by Harper Motors and featured the Mid-City Motor World Late Models, the Upstate Bombers, Legends, boat races and the debut of the Pacific Towing Pull & Park trailer race.

Racing in front of a packed house, Peterson dominated the main event in the Late Models main event, while Fomasi took his second Upstate Bomber win of the summer at the local track.

Brandon Barnwell paced qualifying for the Late Models division with a 15.682 qualifying lap.

The 60-lap feature event went caution-free, as Peterson was able to get the jump on pole-sitter Dennis DelBiaggio to take the lead on lap one and he led the rest of the way.

After building a sizable lead, traffic eventually became a factor when Peterson hit the back of the field, but his lead remained consistent even as he had to maneuver past cars.

Landen Green would place second, ahead of Barnwell in third, Luke Hall in fourth and Joe Bonomini in fifth.

Qualifying for the Upstate Bomber Series was led by Bob Mook with a time of 18.176, with T.J. Sorrels taking the victory in the first heat race and Jeff French winning the second heat.

Anthony Fomasi’s experience proved valuable at the start of the 40-lap feature as he was able to immediately move past pole-sitter Nathaniel Foley for the race lead.

Mook moved to second on lap two as Foley appeared to be battling the handling of his car, with Stephen Ghilarducci, Sorrels and others able to get by him quickly.

Fomasi held on for the win, with Jeff French placing second, ahead of Chris Sarvinski in third, Ghilarducci in fourth and Sorrels rounding out the top five.

In Legends action, Chris Lawrence set fast time in qualifying with a time of 17.913 and also took first in the heat race.

The 20-lap main event featured a thrilling race-long nose-to-tail duel between Scott Taylor and Lawrence.

As hard as Lawrence tried to pressure Taylor into a mistake, Taylor held firm as he was able to take the second main event win of his career.

Lawrence placed second, ahead of Justin Johnson and Mac Collado.

The night’s action also included a boat race which was won by Christian Sanchez.

The debut of the Pacific Towing Pull & Park trailer race also proved to be a real crowd-pleaser even in spite of the race being stopped briefly for a broken tow hitch.

Jimmy Sorrels was able to drive his car onto the flatbed trailer and survived the 30-second timeframe to take the victory.

Racing at Redwood Acres Raceway returns on Aug, 29.

The night’s racing will be presented by Leon’s Car Care Center and will feature the Mid-City Motor World Late Models, as well as the NorCal Legend Series, bombers, mini stocks and the Dirt 4 Bangers.
