By Ray Hamill — The annual preseason H-DNL football jamboree will take place at McKinleyville High School this Saturday.

The action gets under way at 10 a.m. for the varsity teams, with the JVs taking the field at 12:30 p.m., and all eight of the league’s 11-player programs will be on hand..

The jamboree, which takes place one week before the season openers, includes 16 varsity scrimmages, each of which will include 10 plays on offense and 10 plays on defense for both schools involved.

Each team will feature in four different scrimmages.

Scrimmages will be held simultaneously at both ends of the field, with St. Bernard’s and Eureka and Ferndale and Arcata getting the action under way at 10 a.m.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.

The admission fees will help cover the expenses for the host school.

The league teams began official preseason practice early last week, with the 2026 season set to kick off on the weekend of Aug. 28/29.
