Brandon Barnwell has put himself in prime position to win this year’s Mid-City Motor World Late Models division championship at the Redwood Acres Raceway after another strong showing over the weekend.
The season points leader took the lead with 13 laps to go in Saturday night’s main event and held on down the stretch for his third victory of the summer.
And with one race to go this season, the Fortuna driver leads rival Jerry Peterson by 11 points in the race for this year’s championship.
The night’s action was presented by Leon’s Car Care Center and also included the NorCal Legend Series, bombers and the Dirt 4 Bangers.
But the highlight of the night was Barnwell’s win in a main event that featured plenty of twists and turns along the way.
After taking the late lead, he was able to maintain a healthy gap the remainder of the way on the way to taking the checkered flag.
DelBaiggio finished second, followed across the line by Melanie Schmitt, Ryun Leazer and Chad Grammer.
In the NorCal legend Series, Trey Daniels was quickest in qualifying with a time of 17.436, while Kylie Doss won the heat race and Daniels pulled through in the pole shuffle to earn the top spot for the 40-lap feature.
As the main event came to its conclusion, it was clear that Daniels was in a league of his own on the night as he was able to take the win in dominant fashion, his first in the series at the local track.
Brandon White placed second, followed by Cody Winchel, Kai Lovell, Cole Dasenbrock and Jarrett Dickson.
In bombers action, Jeff French set fast time with a 19.431, but the night belonged to Stephen Ghilarducci who was able to win the heat race and earn his first-ever main event victory.
T.J. Sorrels placed second in the main followed by French, Jimmy Sorrels and Nathaniel Foley.
In the Dirt 4 Bangers, Matt Merrill’s late race pass on Christian Sanchez allowed him to earn the victory.
Nathan Knucker, Armand Moore, Sanchez and Nathaniel Foley rounded out the top five.
The 2026 season at Redwood Acres Raceway concludes on September 26.
The Late Models will be joined by the NorCal Legend Series, Upstate Modified Series, bombers, the Dirt 4 Bangers and the return of the Pacific Towing Pull & Park Trailer race.
