The Cal Poly Humboldt and College of the Redwoods women’s soccer teams both continued early-season play this week.
The Jacks were in Hawaii and finished the road trip 1-0-1.
After a 3-0 win over Hawaii Pacific on Wednesday, the Humboldt women tied Hawaii Hilo 0-0 on Friday, posting a third shutout in four games.
The Jacks are now 2-1-1.
Humboldt had the best opportunity of the game to break Friday’s stalemate, when Heidie Munoz sent a shot over the crossbar in the ninth minute.
Former Arcata Tiger Alia Prentiss also had an opportunity in the opening half, as did teammate Lakeland Almony.
The Lumberjacks continued to push forward after the break, with Natalie Wenner forcing a stop with a shot on target in the 68th minute, while the Jacks defense limited the Vulcans to two shots after halftime and did not allow an attempt on goal for the period.
Next up, the CPH women return home to play UCCS at College Creek Field on Thursday at 3 p.m. in their CCAA opener.
The College of the Redwoods women also were in action this week, playing three games in a busy four days.
On Tuesday, they opened the new season with a 5-0 loss at Merced, before traveling to Mendocino on Thursday and wining 3-0.
The win was the first for interim head coach Tia Graham.
Jorlynn Villalvazo was involved in all three goals, scoring one and assisting on the other two, each of which was scored by Lorena Hernandez.
The team capped a busy few days with a 10-0 loss at Sacramento City on Friday.
Next up, the CR women will return home to host Mendocino on Thursday, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
