The Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team opened its Hawai’i trip with a commanding 3-0 victory over Hawai’i Pacific on Wednesday at Waipi’o Soccer Complex.
Three different Lumberjacks scored as Humboldt improved to 2-1 on the season.
The Lumberjacks wasted little time taking control.
Sophomore forward Sari Murphy opened the scoring just 2:22 into the game, finding the back of the net for her third goal of the season and for the third straight match.
Humboldt continued to pressure the Sharks and doubled its advantage in the 31st minute when Lucy Al-Chokhachy scored her first goal of the season to send the Lumberjacks into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Lumberjacks added to their tally in the 70th minute when Hayden Anderson found the back of the net to stretch the lead to three.
Anderson converted a pass from Bre Mello.
Humboldt outshot Hawai’i Pacific 16-7 and placed nine attempts on goal compared to two for the Sharks.
The Lumberjacks also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks and generated 12 of their 16 shots during the opening half.
The Humboldt defense kept Hawai’i Pacific off the scoreboard for the full 90 minutes, with goalkeeper Ari Beddoes making two saves.
The Lumberjacks will conclude their Hawai’i trip on Friday against Hawai’i Hilo.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
