A season for the ages came to an end for the Eureka Loggers over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Eureka girls made the trip to Napa to play Justin-Siena in the North Coast Section Division-3 volleyball quarterfinals and fell in four sets.
The Loggers lost 23-25, 25-8, 25-18, 25-20.
Despite the disappointment, it was a memorable season for the team, which finished 27-7 and posted the most wins in a single season in at least 22 years since MaxPreps began keeping records.
The Loggers also won a second consecutive Pacific League title, rallying from an early loss to rival Arcata with six straight wins.
The No. 2 seeded Justin-Siena girls, however, pulled out the victory on Saturday, overcoming a slow start to win three straight sets.
“Justin-Siena has a lot of big hitters,” Eureka head coach Stephanie Napoleon said. “We had a hard time with the quick tempo, but overall I’m really proud of how they played and really sad to see our season come to an end.”
Several of the teams seniors closed out their high school careers with strong performances, including Tiarah Maualuga, who once again led the Loggers with 15 kills, seven digs two blocks and two aces.
Alena Battle also impressed and finished with 13 kills and five blocks, while Violla Kingsang added 19 assists, three digs and two aces, Eddy Hale had 12 digs and an ace, and Savanhie Phanhsavang chipped in nine digs.
Makenzie Wolff also made some noise and had six kills and four digs, Ramona Dusel had 18 assists, six digs and two aces, Jade Willoughby added a kill and a block, Ezzy Antonio had five digs and two kills and Kylee Secor had a dig.
Two of the five H-DNL teams to qualify for this year’s NCS playoffs remain alive heading into this week’s semifinals.
In Division 6, the No. 3 seeded Ferndale Wildcats will play at No, 2 Anderson Valley, while in Division 5, the No. 1 seeded Del Norte Warriors will host No. 4 St. Joesph Notre Dame.
Both of those games are scheduled for Wednesday bight at 7.
