It’s going to be a busy spring on the soccer fields for Sequoia FC, with the local travel club fielding 10 teams this year.
And several of them were in action over the weekend, including the club’s Under 17 girls team, which had a very busy couple of days.
The Sequoia girls, who are coached by Taylor McMillin and Abigail Borg, played three road games in just 24 hours and enjoyed plenty of success by winning all three.
The impressive Sequoia 17s got the weekend started with a 2-1 over Mendocino under the lights in Ukiah on Friday and followed that by sweeping a doubleheader of action against North Bay Premier on Saturday, winning both games by identical 1-0 scores.
And according to the coaches, the squad is showing a lot of improvement this spring, a belief the players backed with some impressive performances.
“It is a great feeling when you leave a weekend with all wins, but it feels better when those wins show just how much this team has already improved in just two short months,” McMillin said. “They are buying into what coach Abigail Borg and I are asking them to do.”
Jozlyn Dahl and Ava Deyhim each scored in Friday’s win.
The Sequoia girls carried the momentum from that game into Saturday’s doubleheader, with Abigail Pimentel netting the winner from the penalty spot in the opener and Grace Pimentel scoring the decisive goal in game two.
“It is a fantastic group of young athletes and I am looking forward to their continued growth,,” McMillin said.
The club’s U14 and U12 girls teams also were in action over the weekend.
The U14s played a doubleheader against North Bay Premier and split, losing game one 1-0 but responding well to take the second game 3-1.
They are now 2-2 on the season.

The young players are facing a bigger challenge this spring after moving up from the Bronze to the Silver division, but the tougher competition didn’t slow them down.

In boys action, the Sequoia FC U19s were in action with a pair of games at Cal Poly Humboldt.
They open the weekend with a 3-3 tie against Mendocino County Soccer Academy and followed that with a 2-0 win over North Coast FC.
Rylee Collart and Jesus Herrera Vielma each scored in the win, with teammate Cruz Aguilar Miner assisting on the opening goal.
Next up for the U19 boys is a home game against Black Oaks on April 19 (4 p.m.), a game that will also take place at CPH.
