By Ray Hamill — Field conditions at South Fork High resulted in a postponement of a Little 4 baseball game for the second straight day on Wednesday.

The Cubs were scheduled to host the Hoopa Warriors in a game that had been pushed back from Tuesday, but once again the field conditions have resulted in a postponement.

That game will now be played on Friday afternoon instead, beginning at 4.

The two schools will also play on Thursday at Hoopa.

The good news for all of the local baseball and softball teams is that the weather looks set to cooperate in the coming days.

After a rain-soaked March and multiple cancelations and postponements for every school throughout the H-DNL, the hope is that the weather will begin to cooperate in April with a busy schedule on tap.

There are 13 games scheduled over the next three days, all of which are now likely to go ahead.

In baseball, St. Bernard’s will travel to play Ferndale on Thursday with first pitch set for 3 p.m.

The two schools faced off at the Bear River Sports Complex in the only league game that went ahead on Tuesday, with the Crusaders prevailing 4-3 in an exciting showdown.

Also on Thursday, the South Fork girls will travel to play a doubleheader at Hoopa.

The Big 5 schools will all begin conference play this weekend.

On Saturday, Fortuna hosts Eureka in baseball and softball doubleheaders, while the Del Norte boys and girls will play doubleheaders at Arcata High.

All of Saturday’s twin bills get under way at 11 a.m.

The Ferndale and St. Bernard’s softball teams, meanwhile, also had a doubleheader postponed on Tuesday.

Those two games will now take place at Ferndale next Tuesday.
