Ferndale senior Isaak Kasso got the new league campaign off to a flying start in H-DNL track and field on Wednesday.

Competing at Fortuna, Kasso was the big winner on the day, placing first in three events and second in a fourth, and setting PRs in all four.

He was one of four multiple winners, outpacing the field in both hurdles races and the long jump.

He won the 110m hurdles in a time of 15.59 seconds and the 300m hurdles in a time of 43.17 seconds, while jumping 20’ 5” on his way to victory in the long jump.

His mark of 40’ 10.5” in the triple jump trailed only Fortuna’s Russell Pascascio, who won the event with a jump of 41’ 6”.

Pascascio also took first in the high jump of 6’ 2”, followed by Arcata’s Eric Jackson in second and Southern Trinity’s Dennis Wheeler in third.

  1. My comment is to the town’s citizens of Ferndale. Both of my grandsons are using the so-called track at the county fairgrounds. That is disgusting!! I am surprised the boys can win any of the events. No real track. No place for long jumps. No place for high jumps. Nothing!! No place for relays. Don’t have them there because of the conditions. Track surface doesn’t allow for shoes with spikes. Is this the best that this community can have for their future track stars. We lived in Ferndale for a few years. We enjoyed the community and the shops. Now, please see what can be done for the track area. Get your townspeople together –even past ones who have made it BIG!!! See if any of them will be willing to donate funds or start a way to raffle off prizes. Any thing to get the ball rolling. Thanks
