The Del Norte Warriors got their first win of the girls soccer season on Tuesday, defeating South Fork 5-2 in Crescent City.
Alexis Aguirre had a huge game for the home team, scoring two of the goals and assisting on the other three.
“The girls did great working with each other on the field,” Del Norte head coach Cyndi Hansen said.
Defender Hollyn Wakefield switched to attack for the game and the move paid immediate dividends with Wakefield netting one of her team’s goals.
Sophomore captain Aurora Mitchell also scored, as did Lilly Schaad.
Goalkeeper Avery Ritter also continued her impressive fall with another big game between the posts and saved a penalty kick, which was cleared out of danger by Mitchell.
“Im continually impressed by her,” Hansen said of Ritter.
Hailey Moerke, who has split time with Ritter, also impressed for the home team and posted a clean sheet in the second half.
Despite the loss, the South Fork girls played their best game of the year.
Caidence Young continued to be a force for the Cubs and netted both of her team’s goals, including one directly from a corner kick.
Freshman midfielder Elizabeth Chivington assisted on the other on a well-placed through ball.

“They love the unity it brings,” Hansen said.
Next up, on Thursday, South Fork will host St. Bernard’s and Del Norte plays at Ferndale.

Classy color, I like it ladies!
The headbands…change the yellow to dark blue, pink, white or black. All 3 players with pink headbands would be correct, properly equipped all the same…in this picture above.
