It was a day of mixed fortunes for the local baseball teams on Saturday, although most of it was good news.

Both Humboldt Eagles teams advanced to their respective championship games at their own tournament, while the McKinleyville Junior Little League All-Stars kept their memorable summer going with a 17-7 win in their NorCal State Tournament opener in Turlock.

Once again the young Mack players found a way to win a competitive and back-and-forth game, scoring seven late runs to tie the game and then pulling away.

Ty Wade, Teoh Arredondo and Nate Ryan combined on the mound, while Breyden Brock caught the whole game.

The McKinleyville All-Stars will play host Turlock in their second tournament game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Eagles 17Us, who are 4-0 at their own tournament, had a day off, but they will play for the championship on Sunday morning after a strong start to the tournament over the previous three days.

The Eagles will play the Susanville Renegades at 11:30 a.m. at Belotti Field.

The Eagles 19Us also are now 4-0 in tournament play after a 5-0 win over the Colts B team on Saturday night.

After winning the Fairfield tournament last week, the Eagles 19Us will play for a second straight championship on Sunday at 2 p.m. also at Belotti Field.

Also at the Eagles tournament on Saturday, the Northern Humboldt Giants split two games to go to 3-1 in tourney play.

The Giants beat the Southern Humboldt 76ers 9-0, but would then lose to the Colts D team 6-4, which was their first loss in tournament play.

They will close out the tournament against Legacy on Sunday.

Also in action on Saturday night, the Humboldt Crabs closed out a disappointing road trip with a fifth loss in five days, falling 3-2 to the Rogues in Medford.

The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the eighth, but the home team took the lead and held on in a controversial ninth.

Crabs manager Jeff Giacomini and pitching coach Matt Tomlin were both ejected late in the game after arguing calls with the home plate umpire.

With the loss, the Crabs dropped to 27-9 on the season and 11-8 in the Pacific Empire League.
