Del Norte’s Dylan Rodriguez and Fortuna’s Madison Ruiz and Brida Lester led the way for College of the Redwoods at the weekend Golden Valley Conference championships.

Rodriquez continued his impressive season by placing second in the men’s race and posting the 15th fastest time of the season in Northern California.

He crossed the finish line of the four-mile course in a time of 20 minutes 43 seconds, which “is one of the fastest times in school history,” according to CR head coach Reed Elmore.

Ruiz paced the CR women and finished fourth overall in a time of 21:14, followed by Lester in sixth with a time of 21:22.

Both CR teams placed second on the day.

And they weren’t the only local runners to impress for the program.

Eureka’s Rathlin Hemmingsen placed seventh in the women’s race and earned the final All-Conference spot with a time of 21:25.

Zakayla Robinson, another Del Norte graduate, finished 14th with a time of 24:24, followed by teammate Candace Cohoon in 15th (24:32) and Savannah Roberts in 16th (26:56).

Also impressing for the CR men’s team was Gavin Falleri, who finished in eighth and just missed out on All-Conference honors with a time of 21:26, while a foursome of CR runners placed 16th through 19th.

RedSky Waheneka (21:55) placed 16th, followed immediately by Eureka’s Chase Jimenez (22:00), Santino Thomas (22:02) and Arcata’s Levi Browne (22:02), the latter of whom posted a season-best time.

Also competing for CR was Phoenix Davis in 25th (22:30), Eureka’s Sean Morris in 29th (22:51) and Ferndale’s Omar Amador in 34th (25:32).

Butte took the men’s team win with 31 points, followed by Redwoods (61), Lake Tahoe (64) and Shasta (86).
