The Arcata boys got back to winning ways after a tough few days last week, beating Del Norte 4-1 at Arcata on Wednesday afternoon.
Kayin Kloberdanz had two goals and an assist in the win, while Ethan Gyenis added a goal and an assist.
Daniel Davidson also scored in the win as the Tigers improved to 4-2-1 in the Big 5 and 6-3-2 overall.
Trailing 4-0 at halftime, the Warriors played a better second half, with Rodolpho Ramirez scoring the team’s goal on a free kick.
Freshman Saxon Taylor continued to impress for the visitors in midfield.
“To their credit, Arcata played a good composed passing and movement game and were efficient in front of goal, scoring with the chances they had,” Del Norte head coach David Sanyaolu said. “Whereas we were shaky in defense and couldn’t convert the scoring opportunities we had.”
Del Norte is now 2-4-2 in the Big 5.
Eureka 3, South Fork 1
The Loggers played for the second time in two days on Wednesday, and they won for the second time in two days.
Eureka defeated South Fork 3-1, improving to 4-4-5 on the season, and the Loggers have now lost just once in their last six games.
Ean Savage got on the scoresheet for the second straight day, following a Tuesday hat trick against St. Bernard’s with another goal, as he continues to impress after moving from defense to forward.

Teammate Luis Romero also scored for the second straight day, while Noah Wagner rounded out the team scoring.
Vic Vang had a big showing at center back after moving back there this week to cover for the injured Ty Bauer, while Kenyon Bauer had a good game in his first start at right back.
Freshman Makai Dennon also impressed for the second straight day, following his goal on Tuesday with a strong showing in the middle of the field.
Hector Torres scored the Cubs’ lone goal, while team captains Kobe Gellman and Gavyn Salomon did a good job defensively keeping their team in the game.
“We had a rough first half, but played very well in the second half,” South Fork head coach Torey Haus said. “I’ve really got to hand it to Eureka though. Their passing and movement through the middle of the field was spectacular.”
Haus was particularly impressed with the play of Romero.
“I don’t think he made a single mistake the whole game,” Haus said, while also thanking Eureka for giving his team a second game this year. “They’ve got a great coach and a great team.”

McKinleyville 0, Fortuna 0
The Panthers and Huskies played to a 0-0 tie in a well-played matchup at Fortuna that featured several goalscoring opportunities for both teams.
It was a tale of two halves, with the Mack girls getting the better of exchanges in the first half and the home team responding with a better second half.
“There were chances at both ends,” McKinleyville head coach Adam Canepa said. “We just couldn’t score.”
Goalkeeper Caitlyn Canepa made some key stops for the Panthers to keep the deadlock, while Lacie Rink and Bria Ferreira continued to anchor the team defense with another strong performance in front of her.
The ever-reliable Kathryn Tinney, Soffia Reyes and Thea Trout all continued to cause the Huskies problems up the middle, while sophomore Liz Mengel had one of her best games of the year in midfield.
“She hustled and played really tough,” Adam, Canepa said of Mengel.
The McKinleyville head coach also had words of praise for the Huskies.
“Hats off to Fortuna for giving us a good game,” he said. “Both teams worked really hard.”
Brylee Barsanti and Kaydence Ferguson both played well under pressure at the back for the home team, while freshman Raigan Brooks was a creative force up front, attacking the end line and setting plays up.
“It was a good game,” Fortuna head coach Bekah Brooks said. “Our defensive line played well tonight as a team holding off their strikers.”
