Records continue to fall for Arcata’s Collenberg; HDN athletes compete at Fortuna

Arcata senior Skyler Collenberg continued to set a blistering pace in the throwing events this week, as the H-DNL track and field athletes traveled to Fortuna for the second league meet of the spring.

Collenberg placed first in the boys shot put and discus for the second straight week and was one of five boys to win multiple events on the day.

The school record holder in both events also is coming off a huge weekend at the 24th annual Prefontaine Rotary Invitational in Coos Bay, where he set a new meet record in the shot put on his way to placing first with a throw of 59’ 3.5”, which also broke his own Arcata High School record.

Collenberg’s big performances on Wednesday, however, were not quite enough to lift the Tigers to a team victory.

The Eureka Loggers continued their fast start to league competition, scoring 141 points to place first for the second straight week, followed by Arcata (114), St. Bernard’s (71.5), Fortuna (71) and Del Norte (64.5).
