It was another good day for the College of the Redwoods and Cal Poly Humboldt women’s basketball teams on Saturday.

The CR women traveled to Lassen and won 80-56 to keep the pressure on Golden Valley Conference leaders Butte, while the Humboldt women hosted Cal State San Bernardino and won 81-67.

The win for the CR women was their third straight as they improved to 4-1 in the GVC halfway through their conference schedule, and they remain right on the heels of the Roadrunners, who are 4-0 after an impressive 70-32 win over Shasta on Saturday.

“It was a great team win to close out the first half of conference,” CR head coach Bree Northern said. “We shared the ball well, hit shots and played very unselfishly.”

Redwoods outscored Lassen in three of the four quarters.

They led 33-20 at halftime and were just getting warmed up, before putting up 47 points in the second half to close out the dominating win.

Former Arcata Tiger Nora Talty had another huge game for the visitors and finished with a double-double, scoring 21 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and adding two steals.

Fellow Arcata High graduate Mayleah Jackson also impressed and had 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, as did Paityn Erlenbush, who finished with 11 points and two rebounds.

Itzel Torres, who is also enjoying a big winter for Redwoods, had a good all-around game and added nine points, six steals, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

“I love the way that we are trending, and I am so proud of my team for their hard work day in and day out,” Northern said.

Lassen dropped to 1-3 in conference and 4-14 overall.

The CR women will begin the second half of conference play next weekend when they host Shasta, before traveling for a pivotal showdown at Butte the following Thursday (Feb. 5).

The CPH women outscored the Coyotes in each of the first three quarters of Saturday’s game to take a commanding 62-43 lead and held on down the stretch.

Sienna Cherwinski, Kyori Lloyd and Riley Sanz each scored a team-high 17 points to lead a balanced team performance for the Jacks.

With the loss, San Bernardino dropped to 5-7 in the CCAA and 7-10 overall.

Next up, the Jacks will travel to play at Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday.
