An exciting season continued for the Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon, when Wayne Hampton III hit a buzzer-beater to secure an 80-78 win over Cal State San Bernardino at Lumberjack Arena.

The win, which was their fourth straight, lifted the Jacks to 9-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (11-7 overall) and keeps them tied for second in the standings.

Also in action on Saturday, the College of the Redwoods men won 93-64 at Lassen to keep their championship hopes alive.

The CR men improved to 4-1 in the Golden Valley Conference (15-8 overall) and remain second in the standings behind frontrunners Feather River (5-0, 16-7).

A back-and-forth game at Lumberjack Arena featured nine ties and eight lead changes, with neither team able to create much separation.

Hampton finished with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals, leading a balanced Lumberjack attack.

Zaveion Bineyard added 13 points and six rebounds, while Rob Jenkins chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

With the loss, San Bernardino dropped to 6-6 in conference and 9-10 overall.

Next up, College of the Redwoods will host Shasta in a doubleheader with the schools’ women’s teams next Saturday afternoon.

The Jacks will hit the road for four straight games beginning at Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday.

The Jacks will also play next Saturday at Cal State Dominguez Hills, the team they are currently tied with in the standings.
