All in all, it wasn’t a bad start to the Pacific Empire League for the Humboldt Crabs.
For the second straight year, the Crabs opened league play with a challenging road trip and three games each against the Healdsburg Prune Packers and Lincoln Potters.
But unlike last year, when they dropped all six of those games, this time the Crabs split the six games, going 3-3.
They dropped two of three at Healdsburg, but responded by winning two of three at Lincoln, including a 14-5 win in the series decider on Sunday night.
The visitors trailed 5-4 going into the sixth, but scored 10 unanswered runs late in the game to pull out an impressive nine-run victory.
The win lifts the Crabs to 3-3 in the PEL and 15-3 overall.
The Potters, who came into the series riding a 14-game winning streak, dropped to 2-2 and 17-3.
The Crabs out-hit the Potters 14-8 for the game, led by Adam Enyart and Houston Hirschkorn, who each had three hits, including a double by Enyart.
Tate Medicoff added a home run, while Keenan Morris, Jacob Pappas and Michael Perazzo each had two hits, including a double by Morris.
Cody Collins got the win in relief in just his third appearance of the summer.
Collins threw 2.2 innings, giving top four hits and one walk and striking out one.
Saturday’s game didn’t go the Crabs way, but there were some bright spots.
Seven different players each had one hit in the loss, including center fielder Timmy Reed, who hit his first home run of the summer.
Kennan Morris and Cameron Sewell each also had a double for the Crabs.
The Crabs return home to play the Chico Wolves in a non-league game at the Arcata Ball Park on Wednesday night.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
