Morris pitches five shutout innings as Eagles continue to soar

Kira Morris and the Concordia Golden Eagles are well positioned in this year’s PacWest.

The former Eureka Logger and 2023 Humboldt Sports Big 5 Girls Athlete of the Year is enjoying her best season yet playing for the school and is coming off one of her best performances of the year.

The Division-II Concordia women are 33-11 on the season and a dominating 23-5 in the PacWest with 10 more wins than second-placed Biola (13-4).

They’ve also have won 11 of their past 12 games, including a 5-0 victory over Chaminade on Saturday, a game in which Morris dominated.

The 2023 Eureka High graduate, who was the Big 5 MVP as a senior, pitched five shutout innings on her way to her sixth win of the campaign.

The junior pitcher gave up five hits and no walks and struck out one.

Morris has appeared in 13 games this season, including seven starts, and is 6-1 with an ERA of 1.79 and one save.

She has thrown 43 innings, allowing 33 hits and 13 walks and striking out 19.

And Morris has played a key role in her team’s dominating run through conference play thus far, with a 5-0 record in the PacWest.

Her one loss this season came in her first appearance of the year against Nebraska-Kearney.

The Golden Eagles, who split a conference doubleheader with Biola in early March, will face their closest conference challengers in another key doubleheader on April 18.

Next up, Morris and the Concordia women will host Azusa Pacific in a doubleheader on April 4.
