Racing fans enjoy action-packed weekend at Redwood Acres Raceway

Local racing fans were treated to two nights of action at the Redwood Acres Raceway over the weekend, with races on Friday and Saturday nights because of the Redwood Acres Fair.

Friday night featured the Mid-City Motor World Late Models, Legends, Jr. Legends and bombers, while Saturday night saw Legends, Jr. Legends, bombers and boat races.

In Late Model action, Brandon Barnwell set fast time in qualifying (15.697), while Ryun Leazer and Romeo Venza were the heat race victors.

One of the top contenders for the scheduled 75-lap main event fell victim to mechanical issues prior to the start of the race as Luke Hall was unable to take the green flag. 

Due to the number of caution flags early in the race and the potential for weather to return to the track, race officials shortened the main event to 50-laps. 

Brandon Barnwell took the checkered flag for his second straight main event victory of the season, with Leazer in second and Jerry Peterson, Louie Shaha and Ken Hallis rounding out the top five.

In the Legends Division on Friday night, Jeremy Doss broke his own track record in the with a time of 17.336. 

Doss and Brody Manning took the heat race wins.

The main event was caution free, and Doss capped a big night by taking the checkered flag, with Brandon White second, followed in turn by Trey Daniels, Kylie Daniels and Jarrett Dickson.

Friday night saw a clean sweep for T.J. Sorrels in the bomber division, as he took fast time in qualifying 18.705 and followed that with wins in the heat race and the main event. 

Jimmy Sorrels placed second in the feature race, followed by Kimberley Rojas and Kordell Jackson.

Phoenix Venza took all the honors in the Jr. Legends, qualifying with a 21.458 and winning the heat race and main event.

In the Legends action on Saturday, White had fast time in qualifying with a 17.403, while Trey Daniels won heat race one and Brody Manning was the winner of the second heat race.

The final 10-laps of the main event featured some spectacular action for the lead, with Doss taking the victory, followed by Trey Daniels, White, Kylie Daniels and Manning.

Raymond Taylor, Jr. was fast time for the bombers on Saturday with an 18.213 in qualifying. 

T.J. Sorrels took the heat race win, while Taylor, Jr. cruised to victory in the main event over T.J. Sorrels, Tony Ramazzotti, Jimmy Sorrels and Kimberley Rojas.

All of Saturday’s Jr. Legends honors once again went to Phoenix Venza. 

His time in qualifying was a 21.544 and he won the heat race and main event.

Saturday’s races concluded with the fan-favorite boat race. 

Tad Miller was declared the winner with Matt Murrell placing second.
