The Tigers came out swinging hard at South Fork on Wednesday, hitting six home runs in a doubleheader sweep.
Arcata took game one 12-1 in six innings and followed that with a 14-1 win in five innings in game two.
With the two wins, the Tigers improved to 5-5 on the season.
Emilio Medina had three home runs, including two in game two, while Tanner Kees had a home run in each game.
And with five Arcata pitchers combining to give up just one run and two hits in each game, that would prove to be more than enough.
“I thought our pitchers did a good job getting ahead in he count and throwing strikes,” Arcata head coach Troy Ghisetti said. “And we played good defense behind our pitchers.”
Gavin Anderson pitched two scoreless innings for the win in game one, with Cash Adams throwing the final four innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out two.
Kees had a big game at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, while Medina went 2-for-5 with a home run.
Rylan Kees also had a good game for the visitors, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, while Charlie Mager went 2-for-4 and Canyon Martin (1-for-3), Joe Wellick (1-for-3) and Colton Coyne (1-for-4) each also had a base hit in the win.
Travis “T-Bone” Way (1-for-2) and John Stafslien (1-for-3) had South Fork’s only hits of the game.
The Tigers continued to swing the bat well in game two, especially Medina, who was 2-for-3 with two more home runs.
Anderson also had a home run in the win and finished 2-for-3, while Tanner Kees capped a big day by going 1-for-3 with his second home run of the day.
Martin, who has been a bright spot for the Tigers early in the new season, led the team at the plate and was 4-for-4, while Rylan Furber (1-for-1), Wellick (1-for-2), Max Dixon (1-for-2) and Rylan Kees (1-for-4) each also hit successfully in the win.
Rylan Kees also got the win on the mound, throwing two innings and striking out four, with Medina and Furber pitching in relief.
Medina struck out two in three innings and Furber struck out one and walked one in one inning.
Sheyne Casey and Shawn Schmidt each finished 1-for-2 for the Cubs.
With the two losses, South Fork dropped to 4-6.
Next up, the Arcata boys will travel to Eureka to play a doubleheader against St. Bernard’s on Friday afternoon, before opening the Big 5 at Del Norte on April 4.
“That will be a good test for us to get ready to face league competition,” Ghisetti said of the trip to Crusader Field.
St. Bernard’s is 6-0 and game one is set for 2 p.m.
South Fork, meanwhile, will try to get back to winning ways in a home game against St. Vincent de Paul on Saturday afternoon at 1.
