College of the Redwoods announced on Wednesday evening that the local community college will not field a softball team this year.
According to a short press release announcing the news, injuries and medical clearance issues over the semester break has left the program without enough players to field a full team.
The 2025 season was supposed to be new head coach Michaela Harris’ first with the program after she was hired to replace the departed Megan Valente last summer.
The press release added that the school will continue with its offseason practices and instruction and that the team will return in 2026.
Players will retain their eligibility.
CR President Keith Flamer addressed the news in the press release.
“Our athletic teams have seen a lot of success over time, and none of it would be possible without the support of our alumni, donors, fans, coaches, and student-athletes,” he said. “The administration remains committed to supporting all our teams and student-athletes, and I look forward to next year.”
