Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – Isaak Kasso in action for the Wildcats this past spring.
Fresh off an outstanding senior year in sports at Ferndale High School, Isaak Kasso will compete for Cal Poly Humboldt this year.
The multi-sport Wildcats standout will run track for the Lumberjacks.
Kasso, who also played a pivotal role in helping to lead the Wildcats to a first-ever state championship in football last year, is expected to have an immediate impact at the collegiate level and the coaches are excited to add him to a Lumberjacks roster that includes numerous local standouts.
After starring for the Wildcats in sprints, jumps and hurdles, the recent Ferndale graduate could see his options expand at the next level.
“Isaak is a versatile and talented athlete whose achievements in the hurdles, jumps and sprints make the decathlon a great option for him,” Cal Poly Humboldt head coach Sarah Ingram said. “We are thrilled to have a local athlete of his caliber join our program and look forward to supporting him in his development. He will be a great asset to our team.”
Kasso certainly closed out his high school career in style.
Just a few months after taking home a state winners medal on the football field and being named to the inaugural MaxPreps Small-Town All-State team, Kasso enjoyed an outstanding season on the track.
He placed first in the 110 meter hurdles at the H-DNL championships in early May and would go on to win the same event at the North Coast Section Class A championships before finishing fourth at the NCS Meet of Champions.
He also placed second in league in the 300m hurdles and second in the triple jump at both the league and NCS Class A meet.
His personal best in the 110m hurdles is 14.65 seconds, and he also has a PR of 43.03 seconds in the 300m hurdles, a 20’ 5” in the long jump and a 43’ 5” in the triple jump.
According to a CPH press release announcing the news, Kasso plans to major in Kinesiology.
Kasso is one of 14 new recruits on the Cal Poly men’s team.
