A busy spring season is beginning to wind down for the Sequoia FC teams, several of which will be back in action this weekend.
Last weekend, the local travel soccer club’s U14 boys team traveled to Santa Rosa and tied North Coast FC 0-0.
The U14 boys will be back in action this weekend, as they get set for three games, against Marin FC, Briceno Soccer Club and Tahuichi FC.
According to team coach Francisco Medina, his players had a strong performance against North Coast FC, a team they had previously lost to.
“(It) speaks to the work we have been putting in on the training field,” he said. “We’ll continue to improve as we look to close out the season on a strong note.”
The Sequoia FC U16 boys team, meanwhile, has been one of the club’s most impressive teams this season and moved six points clear in their league standings after a come-from-behind win last weekend.
The Sequoia boys traveled to Santa Rosa and battled back from an early one-goal deficit on the way to a 3-2 win over Santa Rosa Empire.
The victory over the second-placed team in the league standings puts the local club team in the driver’s seat with three games remaining.
Christopher Marquez-Olea, Giovanni Alvarado-Lopez and Isaiah Herbst each scored for Sequoia.
According to coaches Mario Garcia and Jesus Olea, the players played a great game against a Santa Rosa team that never gave up.
“We are very proud of this group of young and talented athletes,” the coaches said.

The Sequoia girls fell 4-0 in the first game and 1-0 in the second game.
Coach Omar Martinez said he felt his girls deserved a better result in the second game and it was a showdown that could have gone either way.
