Rumble at the River IV provided local fight fans with an exciting night of action last the Bear River Casino Resort over the weekend, and plans are already in place for the next fight night.

According to fight night promoter John McGinnis of Red Thunder Promotions, Rumble at the River IV sold out 35 days in advance and was the fastest fight night sellout in Bear River history.

McGinnis added that it was also the largest fight night card in Humboldt County history, with 18 fights on the card, including several unique showdowns.

“It was probably one of the best fight shows I’ve ever been a part of, and I’ve been a part of a lot of fight nights,” McGinnis said.

Plans are already under way for the next fight night, which will be held on October 19 and is being billed as “Sock-tober”.

Saturday’s event included four weight divisions with four fighters in each, as well as a bare knuckle showdown, a Cubs Challenge for younger fighters and the county’s first-ever David vs. Goliath fight between a 300-pounder and a 170-pounder.

“There were a lot of titles handed out on Saturday night,” McGinnis said.

Saturday’s event followed last December’s Rumble at the River III, which was the first tough man fight night in the county since 2015 and not to be confused with the several MMA fight nights Bear River has hosted in recent years.

The event was held at the recently remodeled Tish-Non Ballroom, with all 375 tickets sold out well in advance.

The event was so popular, a viewing party was also held at the Bear River Thirsty Bear Lounge, where an additional 100 fans got to take in the action.

“It’s affordable family entertainment for fight fans on the coast,” McGinnis added. “The whole family atmosphere was just electric.

“This is something different. It brings it back to the true essence of true combat.”

The fighters were mostly locals, with some also traveling in from Oregon and the Sacramento area.

Winners on the night included Ryan Peters, who was the 170 Bear Knuckles champion, as well as Scottie Stockman, a 170-pounder who won the David vs. Goliath showdown.

Carlos Castillo, who fought on the card along with his son Joshua, won the 175 pound Brawling Bear fight, while Oscar Perez won the Grizzly Bear Challenge, Caleb Harrison won the Kicking Bear World Championship, Ryan Peterson won the 170-pound Bear Knuckle fight, Jack Reichel won the Kodiak bear Division, Shannon Albers won the Black Bear Division, Giovanny Bernardino won the Brown Bear Division and Alexander Cork won the Grizzly Bear Division.
