By Ray Hamill — Senior teammates Seth Dyer and Aaiden Burris have been named Little 4 co-MVPs in boys basketball after an outstanding season for both players.

The St. Bernard’s dynamic duo complemented each other well on the court and led the Crusaders to an undefeated league campaign and a Dick Niclai Tournament final.

The all-league selections and MVPs are voted on by the conference coaches and were officially released on Thursday afternoon.

And SB head coach Issac Gildea saw first-hand this season what Dyer and Burris meant to his team.

“Seth Dyer and Aaiden Burris are two of the best shooters to ever come through SB,” Gildea said. “However, we as a coaching staff are most proud of their complementary leadership styles that helped us have one of the best season records in the history of the school.”

Burris averaged 15.4 points a game, as well as 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists, but it was his passion for the game that really stood out.

“He brought energy and an infectious love of the game to every practice and game,” the head coach added. “His teammates fed of off him and looked to him to carry us when we needed it.”

Burris did not disappoint.

“His shot making and passing were just incredible to witness,” Gildea added.

Dyer was equally effective on a team that finished the season 21-5 and he averaged 17.1 points a game, as well as averaging 5.7 rebounds and 2 assists.

“He was not only one of the league’s best scorers and rebounders, but also a lockdown defender for us all year long, often guarding the opponents’ best player,” Gildea said of Dyer.

And that’s not all the composed Dyer brought to the team.

“Seth was calm and poised no matter how tense the environment,” the coach added.

Dyer’s younger brother Liam Dyer also was named all-league for the Little 4 champions.

“Not only did his shot making (impress) but his passing and understanding of the game propelled him to be a significant threat teams had to account for,” Gildea said of the sophomore guard, who averaged 10.4 points, 6 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

Outstanding South Fork senior Tommy Rotbergs also was named to the Little 4 all-league team, along with teammate Shevy Bero-Van Meter.

Both players played a pivotal role in the Cubs’ success, which saw them finish second in conference.

The Cubs’ impressive duo also helped lead the school to a North Coast Section boys championship game for the first time in over three decades.

Ferndale’s Prescott Langer and Thomas Fergison were each also named to the all-league team, as the Wildcats overcame a slow and late start to the season (after their historic football run) to finish in a tie for third in the Little 4.

The Hoopa Warriors tied the Cats for third, before winning a Dick Niclai tournament play-in game at Ferndale.

Lyle McKinnon and Neil Moon were both named all-league for a young Warriors team that closed out the season strong, winning their Niclai opener at South Fork to reach the tournament semifinals.
