The Eureka Loggers tipped off the new boys basketball season with a comfortable win at Hoopa on Tuesday on a busy night for H-DNL teams.
The Loggers won the game 65-30.
Also in boys action on Tuesday, South Fork beat Fort Bragg 56-43, Fortuna defeated Cloverdale 74-38 and McKinleyville fell to Chico by a score of 52-41.
The Eureka boys came out fired up for the new season and opened up a 13-point lead before the end of the first quarter.
“We came out with lots of energy,” said head coach Jimmy Rodgers, whose team led 19-6 after the first quarter and carried a 30-15 advantage into halftime.
Juniors Jahmil Rippy and Elijah Estrada led the Loggers in scoring with 15 points each, while sophomore Prince Lattimer chipped in 10 points and Trent Gerber finished with eight.
The Eureka coach felt it was a challenging opener.
“It’s always good to play against a fast-paced team like Hoopa. They really get after it,” Rodgers said.
Next up, the Loggers will play their annual alumni game in the new Jay Willard Gymnasium on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Fortuna boys also got the new season off to a winning start on Tuesday.
Alfonso Medina scored a team-high 16 points in the win as the Huskies opened up an eight-point lead before the end of the first quarter and led 40-20 at halftime.
Medina also had eight assists, seven rebounds and five steals.
Russell Pascascio added 13 points and six rebounds, while Kobe Spaulding chipped in 13 points and five boards.
Jace Barsanti and Mason Toroni each added nine points.
Next up, the Huskies play at Ukiah on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
In Miranda, meanwhile, senior Tommy Rotbergs got the new season off to an impressive start for the South Fork Cubs.
Rotbergs scored a team-high 13 points against Fort Bragg, while teammate Shevy Bero-Vanmeter finished with 12 points just three days after helping the Cubs win a first-ever North Coast Section championship in football.
Having just one practice under their belts didn’t bother the Cubs, who got off to a fast start and led 19-7 after the first quarter.
The South Fork boys stretched the advantage to 19 (28-9) before halftime.
“I thought we played really well as a team and had great energy,” head coach Taylor Morrow said. “Looking forward to an excellent season.”
Next up, the Cubs play California School for the Deaf on Nov. 30.

The McKinleyville Panthers, meanwhile, played their second game in as many days at the Las Plumas tournament.
Jordan Brown scored a team-high 13 points in the loss, while teammate Nick Maher finished with 11 points and Bode Douglass chipped in nine.
“We had trouble hitting some outside open looks today,” head coach Chris Davis said. “Our defense played very tough against a team that played in the NorCal finals for Division-4 last year.
“We showed a lot of grit and heart.”
The loss drops the Panthers to 1-1 on the season.
On Monday McKinleyville beat Las Plumas 60-56 in overtime.
Cole Armstrong scored a team-high 17 points in that win, while Douglass finished with 13 points and Brown chipped in 11.
The Panthers close out tournament play against Lassen on Wednesday.
