Five different McKinleyville girls scored in the fourth quarter on Thursday night, as the Panthers broke open a tight game with a dominating fourth quarter at Fortuna in a 43-33 win.
The victory was the first in league play for the Panthers, who improved to 1-1 in the Big 5 and 11-4 overall.
McKinleyville led by six at halftime, but the home team made a run in the third quarter to pull back within two, thanks in large part to the play of sophomore Mariah Bravo.
Bravo scored a game-high 11 points in the loss, all of them in the second half, and nailed three 3-pointers to give her teammates a lift when they needed it.
The Mack girls, however, closed out the stronger of the two teams and outscored the Huskies 13-5 down the stretch to seal the win.
And they did it with some balanced offense.
Tatum Fisher and Morgan Stubbs each scored a team-high 10 points in the win while Kim Lewis finished with eight points.
Trinity Fisher, Gaby Watson and Kalyssa Claros each chipped in four points.
Haylee Youkey added six points for the Huskies, who dropped to 0-2 in league and 7-10 overall, while teammate Allie Cox had five points.
Next up, the Panthers will host Ferndale in a non-league showdown on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., while the Huskies will host Eureka in a Big 5 matchup on Tuesday night.
