Ferndale girls continue to roll, win 50th annual Stokes Tournament

Submitted photos – The Ferndale girls celebrate their tournament championship on Saturday.

The way the Wildcats are playing early in the season suggests they will be tough to stop in what is expected to be a competitive Little 4 in girls basketball this winter.

The Ferndale girls continued to roll over the weekend, topping Lower Lake 46-10 in the championship game at the 50th annual Stokes Tournament at Kelseyville.

The win was the eighth straight for the Cats, and it was their second straight tournament title, having also won at Trinity the previous weekend.

And they did it with another strong team performance.

“All weekend long we played together as a strong unit,” head coach Terra Albee said. “The girls have great team chemistry and work hard on defense.”

Kyla Albee was named tournament MVP, while teammates Carly Carmesin, Reaghan Langer and Clara Albee were all named all-tournament.

Carmesin scored a game-high 24 points and had six rebounds in Saturday’s win, while Langer had a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Kyra Albee capped three big days at the tournament with nine rebounds, six points and three assists, while Clara Albee had three rebounds, two blocks and two points.

Clara Christiansen also had four rebounds and two points, Tia Henrikson had two assists and two rebounds and Madison Gossi had five rebounds.

“They are really fun to watch play,” the head coach said of her players. “We feel blessed to come away with the trophy for the second year in a row.”

The Cats are ow 8-1 on the season and will host Del Norte on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
