The St. Bernard’s Crusaders have advanced to Thursday night’s championship game at the Berean Christian tournament after posting back-to-back victories on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The SB girls beat Kipp King in their tournament opener by a score of 70-38, and followed that with a 57-20 win over AIMS Academy on Wednesday morning.
With the two wins, the Crusaders are now 10-1 on the season and will play for a third championship in four tournament appearances on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Once again, the Crusaders had several big performances in both wins.
Laila Florvilus led the way offensively against Kipp King and scored a team-best 14 points, while Madelyn Shanahan finished with 13 points and Jocelyn Sundberg scored 12.
In the same game, Amaiyah Her chipped in 11 points and Rihanna Fontenot scored eight.
Wednesday’s win wasn’t as high scoring, but the Crusaders performance was equally balanced.
Florvilus, who is enjoying an outstanding start to the season, paced the offense again with 15 points, while Aliyah Vigil scored nine points, and Shanahan and Sundberg each chipped in eight.
Over the weekend, meanwhile, the South Fork Cubs placed second at their own Gene Cotter Memorial Tournament in Miranda.
The Cubs defeated Laytonville in their tourney opener on Friday by a score of 42-14 and also got the better of Round Valley 38-37 in an exciting showdown for second place on Saturday, with a lopsided loss to Hoopa sandwiched in between.
Macy Yarbrough, one of just two seniors on the team, scored a team-best 16 points in the opener, while Arianna Rose finish with nine points and Aubrey Young chipped in six.
Half of the eight-player roster are either sophomores or freshmen, including three of the later.
Jalynn Worswick and Cadence Young each added four points in the opening win, while Kara Worswick finished with three points.
Yarbrough and Cadence Young each scored a team-high 12 points in the one-point win over Round Valley, while Rose finished with six points, Aubrey Young four points and Jaylnn Worswick three.
