Senior quarterback Drew Sisemore threw for six touchdowns and ran in for another, as the St. Bernard’s offense came alive in a 61-40 win at Guymon High School in Oklahoma on Saturday night.
Sisemore and the offense had their best outing of the year in a game that saw the two teams combine for over 100 points.
“Our offense finally came together and just exploded tonight,” head coach Matt Tomlin said.
With an offensive line that gave him plenty of time to throw the ball, Sisemore threw two TD passes each to Owen Shanahan and Carl Nunes, as well as one each to Grant Omey and Wyatt Simoni.
Final statistics were not immediately available, but the senior signal caller threw for well over 300 yards.
Simoni and Omey each also ran in for a TD.
The game was a shootout and still close heading into the fourth quarter, but a St. Bernard’s defense that was shorthanded at linebacker stepped up late to help seal the win.
“They had a mobile quarterback, but we figured it out in the fourth quarter,” Tomlin said.
With the win, the Crusaders improved to 3-3 on the season, but more importantly it should give them some much-needed momentum heading into the toughest part of their schedule.
Next week, the Crusaders travel to play at St. Vincent de Paul, a team that beat them 33-7 on opening weekend, and after that they play three straight Big 4 games to close out the regular season.
Tomlin, however, believes the trip to Oklahoma will help prepare them for the tough run in, especially with the offense playing he way it did on Saturday night.
“This has just been an amazing trip,” the head coach said. “Just to see our kids coming together the way they came together tonight, fighting for each other, this is exactly what we needed.”
