VIDEO — H-DNL players show their appreciation for local officials

By Ray Hamill — The Eureka Loggers and Ferndale Wildcats showed their support for local basketball officials on Thursday night, coming together to honor the crew working the games at Jay Willard Gymnasium.

In between the two varsity games, the boys and girls teams from both schools lined up around the court while the three officials were acknowledged and introduced to the crowd and presented with flowers from the players.

“They have sacrificed so much for us these past three weeks,” Eureka Athletic Director Kristie Christiansen said, adding that the league couldn’t have done it without them.

A shortage of officials this season, coupled with so many games taking place in such a short timeframe, has meant a lot of work for the officials that are working.

In a touching moment at the end of the presentation, the three officials got a standing ovation from the crowd.

Thursday’s crew included Todd Sanborn, Fred Robinson and Dee Breaux.
