Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – Eureka’s Keylei Carroll tries to control the ball at McKinleyville on Wednesday.
By Ray Hamill — Eureka junior Keylei Carroll was at it again on Wednesday, scoring another quality goal, this time with her feet.
The Loggers defender netted a brilliant header to seal a victory at Arcata over the weekend, and followed that with a perfectly-placed free kick to score in a 7-0 win at McKinleyville on Wednesday.
Carroll, a reliable defender, switched to midfield for the game and was immediately effective, netting on the second-half free kick.
Head coach Tommy Learmouth says it’s a switch the team will continue to experiment with in the coming weeks.
The ever-reliable Klayre Barres also scored three goals in the win, as the Loggers dominated the game, opening up a three-goal lead before halftime.
With the win, the Eureka girls are 4-0 in the H-DNL and top of the table. The Fortuna Huskies (3-0) are right on their heels and have a game in hand.
The two frontrunners will play twice in October in a pair of games that will go a long way towards deciding this year’s championship.
