Photos by Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Humboldt Crabs scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning but lost 8-3 to the Corvallis Knights on Friday.

It was a good first impression for Eureka’s Aidan Morris, but not so much for the Humboldt Crabs.

The Crabs opened the new season against the Corvallis Knights at the Arcata Ball Park on Friday night, falling 8-3.

But Morris was one of the bright spots for the home team, finishing 2-for-4 in the loss, with one of his team’s two RBIs.

Morris, who played for the Humboldt B52s last summer, was making his debut with the team.

The former Eureka Logger who plays collegiately at Santa Rosa JC was one of three local players to play Friday, along with Kokko Figueiredo and Dylan Campbell, each of whom is back from last summer.

Campbell pitched three innings in relief of starter Jordyn Eglite, giving up three runs on three hits with six strikeouts.

Eglite threw the opening five innings and took the loss, as the home team fell into a 5-0 hole and could not recover.

The Crabs did make some noise in the bottom of the sixth inning, narrowing the gap to two with three runs, but the visitors quickly pulled away again, scoring twice in the top of the seventh to grab the momentum right back.

Figueiredo was held hitless in his season debut.

In addition to Morris, both Bryce Kirk and Riley Clearly had two hits in the loss, including a double by Kirk.

Four errors didn’t help matters for the Crabs.

Andy Atwood had three hits for the Knights.

The two teams will continue their weekend series with a game on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
