With his high school career winding down, Ferndale senior Tanner Pidgeon seems determined to close out with a bang.
Pidgeon and his teammates hosted Hoopa in Little 4 baseball action on Thursday afternoon and won 8-1 to secure second place in conference and a No. 2 seed for the upcoming Charles Lakin Tournament.
And the standout senior continued what has been a huge recent run at the plate for his team.
The hard-hitting and speedy Pidgeon finished 3-for 3 with two triples, an RBI and three runs and has now had multiple runs in four straight games.
In that run, he has gone an incredible 12-for-15.
“He’s on fire right now,” said Ferndale head coach Justin Andersen, whose team improved to 6-4 in the Little 4 and 14-4 overall.
Ferndale sophomore Cash Mobley also continued his impressive spring with another good performance against the Warriors, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.
“Cash and Tanner set the tone for us offensively.” Andersen said, “They’ve done that all year and they continue to do that.”
Two other Ferndale players also had multiple hits in a 12-hit team performance.
Tristen Titus finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run, while Luke Dixon was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Cade Renner pitched six strong innings for the win on the mound.
Renner gave up just three hits and two walks and struck out five, with Julian Miller throwing the final inning and holding the Hoopa bats hitless while allowing two walks and striking out two.
Prescott Langer (1-for-3 with an RBI), Brad Williams (1-for-1) and Westin Ayala (1-for-3 with a run) each also had a base hit in the win.
The Ferndale defense also impressed the coach.
“We cleaned it up quite a bit,” he said. “We still had a couple of mishaps that put runners in scoring position, but Cade got out of it.
“We didn’t allow any big innings, which has kind of been our focus.”
No stats were available for the Warriors, who dropped to 1-9 in the Little 4 and 5-12 overall.
