Humboldt Crabs baseball

The Humboldt Crabs scored two late runs on the way to a 2-0 win over the Bercovich Honors at the Arcata Ball Park on Tuesday night.

A competitive game remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth, with both teams’ pitchers in control for much of the night.

With the non-league win, the Crabs improved to 32-12 on the season.

Alex Harrington hit a two-RBI double to score the only runs of the night.

Fortuna’s Daniel Osborne had a good night for the home team, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Mike Pickett and Joe Fagan each also doubled in the win.

Nathan Bunyard pitched six strong innings for the Crabs, allowing no runs on three hits and four walks and striking out five.

Spencer Jacobs, Jackson Kelly and Adam Enyart each pitched in relief and held the Honors scoreless down the stretch.

The two clubs will close out a two-game series on Wednesday night, with first pitch set for 7 p.m.

The Crabs will then turn their attention back to the Pacific Empire League with three final league games this weekend against the Medford Rogues.

The Crabs remain fourth in the standings with a record of 11-11, trailing the Healdsburg Prune Packers (18-5), the Lincoln Potters (13-9) and the Rogues (11-8).

The Potters lost 8-5 to Healdsburg on Tuesday and close out their league campaign with games against Healdsburg (Wednesday), the Solano Mudcats (Thursday) and the West Coast Kings (Saturday).
