Tyler Hinrichs continued to showcase his ability to reach base as the St. Bernard’s Crusaders overcame five errors to beat the host school on the opening day of the Yreka tournament on Thursday.
The SB senior reached base three times and scored twice as the visitors won 9-4 to keep their unbeaten start to the season in tact.
Through the opening four games, Hinrichs has a .667 on-base percentage.
The standout senior also pitched three innings for the save, giving up just one unearned run on three hits and two walks and striking out two.
Junior Garrett Shanahan got the start on the mound and got the win, pitching three innings and giving up one earned run on five hits and no walks while striking out two.
“Garrett Shanahan and Tyler Hinrichs both pitched great and only allowed one earned run combined,” St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said. “We continue to struggle defensively, committing five errors, but our pitchers were able to limit the damage and lead us to victory.”
At the plate, Hinrichs finished 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and two runs, while fellow senior Michael Manzi also continued his impressive start to the new season, finishing 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI and scoring three runs.
Mason Noel also made some noise at the plate and was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, while Henry Hinrichs was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run.
Luke Brunton, Mason Long and Brody Gaser each also had an RBI.
The Crusaders, who improved to 4-0, will play their tournament semifinal on Friday afternoon at 4.
