
Junior Evalynn Little got the new softball season off to an impressive start on Thursday, leading the Huskies to a doubleheader sweep over Kelseyville at Fortuna High School.
The Fortuna girls won game one 10-6 and followed that with a 14-5 victory in game two.
Little had with multiple hits in both wins, finishing the day 5-for-6 with five RBIs, including two doubles in game two.
Addie Collenberg posted both wins in the circle.
The Fortuna junior pitched the final three innings of game one, giving up two runs on two hits and six walks and striking out five.
She threw a complete game in game two, allowing just one earned run on five hits and three walks and striking out six.
Game one wasn’t decided until late.
The Knights scored two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 6-6, but the Huskies responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, with key hits from Little and Keeley Baker.
Olivia Hayes also impressed in the opener, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs, while Isabel Sanchez finished 1-for-4 with a double.
Hailee Thompson and Sephora Machado each also had a base hit in the win.
For Kelseyville, Ashlyn Wurm hit a solo home run, while Madison Byrne took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 runs on nine hits and four walks and striking out five.
The Fortuna bats continued to impress in game two, but the Huskies committed six errors.
Fortuna’s Sophia Castillo finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, while teammate Mia Tiedeman was 3-for-4.
Hayes continued to impress with two more hits, while Keeley Baker was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, Machado had a double, and Thompson had a base hit.
Josie Keithly hit a home run in the third for the visitors.
With the two wins, the Huskies improved to 2-0, and they will try to continue their winning ways when they play at South Fork on Saturday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
