It was a disappointing day for the Cal Poly Humboldt women’s basketball team at the CCAA Tournament in Pomona on Friday.

After receiving the No. 2 seed for the postseason tournament and an opening-round bye, the Jacks took the court early on Friday afternoon and came out flat, falling to Cal State Los Angeles 87-55.

The loss ended an eight-game winning streak, the team’s longest since 2019.

The game got away from the Jacks in the third quarter.

LA held a slender one-point lead after the opening quarter, but would quickly take control of the game in the second, outscoring Humboldt 24-9 for the period to open up a 16-point advantage.

They continued to pull away after the break, outscoring the Jacks in each of the third and fourth quarters on the way to a comfortable win.

The victory secures a place in Saturday’s tournament championship game against either Cal Poly Pomona or Chico State.

Jordyn Smith and Shade Satica each scored a team-high 15 points in the loss, with Smith also grabbing 13 rebounds for a double-double.

No other Humboldt player finished with more than six points.

With the loss, the Jacks dropped to 20-9.

After their strong finish to the regular season, the Humboldt women were ranked No. 8 in the West Region this week.

They will find if they are included in the NCAA playoffs on Sunday, with the selection show taking place at 7:30 p.m.

The Humboldt men, meanwhile, won their tournament opener on Thursday evening, defeating Cal State San Marcos 62-52.

The Jacks will play Cal State Dominguez Hills in their semifinal on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m.
