The Humboldt Eagles 19Us will play for a place in the championship game at the Fairfield tournament on Saturday after splitting a doubleheader on Friday.

After opening the tournament with a big come-from-win win on Thursday, the local American Legion baseball club continued to roll on Friday afternoon, defeating the Sacramento Samurai 10-1 in five innings.

But they would suffer their first tournament loss later in the day, falling 10-2 to the host Expos.

Despite the loss, the Eagles, who are 9-7, can still qualify for Sunday’s championship game with a win over All-Pro on Saturday, whereas a loss would see them advance to the consolation game.

Parker Prior continued his impressive summer with the team with a dominating performance on the mound against Sacramento.

The former Ferndale Wildcat has enjoyed a good return to the game this summer after opting not to play in college last year.

Prior threw all five innings for a complete-game win, giving up just one earned run on four hits and one walk and striking out six.

Another player who been impressing this summer is Eureka’s Garrett Levitt and he had a monster game at the plate in the win, finishing 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.

“We played pretty good in game one,” Eagles manager Scott St. John said. “We came out and got some runs right off the bat and Parker controlled the game. It was a good job by him.”

Anthony Cardenas also made some noise at the plate and finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs, while Michael Manzi was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run and Ryder Mitchell was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. 

Game two didn’t go so well.

It was close for a while with just three runs separating the two teams, but Fairfield took advantage of some Eagles errors and walks to put some distance between the two teams.

Alex Jimenez finished 1-for-2 in the loss and drove in both of his team’s runs, while Mitchell was 2-for-3.

Mitchell took the loss on the mound, throwing 4.2 innings and giving up five earned runs on six hits and six walks while striking out two.

Saturday’s game is set for 12:30 p.m.
