The Lumberjacks will play Cal State San Marcos for the second time in five days on the opening day of the CCAA Tournament on Thursday.

The Cal Poly Humboldt men secured the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament after closing out the regular season with back-to-back wins late last week, including a 65-61 win over the Cougars at Lumberjack Arena on Saturday.

The Jacks will take the court at 5:30 p.m. in Pomona.

The game will be broadcast live on local ESPN radio (107.3 FM and 1340 AM) and will be streamed live on go.flocollege.com.

The 3 seed is the program’s highest conference tournament seed in 11 seasons, dating back to the 2014-15 season.

“We’re super thankful for our crowd and community for the support all year long,” Humboldt head coach DJ Broome said following Saturday’s win. “We’ve definitely had better performances, but proud of our guys for pulling it out and advancing to the postseason.

“We took some major strides this year as a program and look forward to continuing to build and continued success this season.”

The impressive tournament seed was achieved in Broome’s first year in charge of the program.

The Jacks are 15-13 on the season and finished 13-9 in the CCAA.

The red-hot Humboldt women, meanwhile, closed out the regular season with eight straight wins on the way to clinching second place in the CCAA.

And that secured the No. 2 seed for the tournament and a first-round bye.

The Jacks will begin tourney play on Friday at noon against either No. 3 Cal State Los Angeles or No. 6 Cal State Monterey Bay.

Friday’s game will also be broadcast live on local ESPN radio as well as streamed live on go.flocollege.com.

“I am extremely happy for our team,” head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson said after Saturday’s win. “This is the result of their hard work and determination throughout the year and they are being rewarded.

“It has been a total joy for me to coach them, and I’m thankful that we get to keep playing. We will continue to stay locked in and work hard in getting prepared for (this) week.”

The Jacks closed out conference play with a record of 18-4 and are 20-8 overall.

The eight-game winning streak is the team’s longest since 2019 and the 20-win season is the Jacks first in over a decade, dating back to 2014/15.
