The College of the Redwoods women got their title hopes back on track with a big win on the basketball court on Saturday, defeating College of the Siskiyous 69-58 at CR.
The win lifts Redwoods to 2-1 in the Golden Valley Conference and into a tie with Siskiyous for second in the standings.
Butte, which had a bye this weekend, leads the GVC with a 2-0 record, including a 73-58 win at CR last weekend.
Paityn Erlenbush led the way for the home team on Saturday and finished one rebound shy of a double-double with a strong all-around performance.
The freshman center from Eugene finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and a block.
On the heels of last weekend’s loss to Butte, the Redwoods women needed this win or they would have fallen two wins back of Siskiyous in the standings.
And the players took the court knowing what was on the line.
“The ladies came out strong from the jump and set the tone for the game,” CR head coach Bree Northern said. “We were able to get good looks from inside that helped us get in a rhythm.”
Sophomore guard Nora Talty also impressed in the win.

The former Arcata Tiger, who has been one of her team’s most consistent players this winter, scored 14 points and also had eight rebounds and a block.
Caidence Young also had a good day and the former South Fork Cub added 12 points, while another Arcata High graduate, Addison Wingate, finished with eight rebounds, seven points and three assists.
All in all, it was a good team performance from a squad that needed it.
“The team did a great job sharing the ball (today) and playing together,” Northern said.
Former Hoopa Warrior Ivy Lamebear plays for Siskiyous. No stats were immediately available for the Eagles from Saturday’s game.
Next up, the CR women will have a busy week with road games at Feather River on Thursday and at Lassen on Saturday
CR is now 10-9 overall, while Siskiyous dropped to 8-11.
