Former St. Bernard’s Crusader Nick Dugan is enjoying his best season yet on the college baseball fields this spring.

The 2022 SB graduate, who led the Crusaders to a NorCal title in his final high school season, has been the Stanford Cardinal’s most effective pitcher this spring.

He leads the Division-I university in wins and ERA and has yet to taste defeat on the hill this spring.

After recording four wins combined in his first two years with the Cardinal, Dugan is 6-0 this spring, accounting for almost a quarter of the team’s wins.

He also has a college career low ERA of 4.76 in 39.2 innings work.

He has started seven games and appeared in 13.

One of the most impressive stats for Dugan is the number of home runs he has allowed.

After giving up 17 in his first two seasons combined, Dugan has yet to allow a home run this spring.

After featuring sporadically early in the campaign and appearing in just 9.2 innings in his first seven appearances of the year, Dugan has been used a lot more over the past six weeks, throwing 30 innings in his last six appearances.

He also has won two of his last three starts, including a 2-1 victory over Sacramento State, which is coached by Humboldt County native Reggie Christiansen.

Fifteen of his 36 strikeouts this season have come in those three games, including six in the win over the Hornets.

Back in the spring of 2022, Dugan closed out his high school career with a bang, winning three games in eight days to lead the Crusaders to a NorCal championship.

His legend was cemented when he took over in relief in the championship game and struck out all 13 batters he faced to lead the Crusaders to a come-from-behind 7-6 win.

The Cardinal are now 25-23 on the season, including a 9-18 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Dugan and the Cardinal open a three-game series at North Carolina State on Thursday.
