An exciting season continued for the Hoopa Warriors on the baseball fields on Monday.

Sophomore Barret Myers hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead the Hoopa boys to a 3-2 win over Weed in game two of a non-conference doubleheader at Hoopa.

Earlier in the day, the Warriors got the twin bill started with a 13-2 victory in six innings.

In addition to Myers’ clutch hit, junior Allen Kane had a big day for the Warriors, who have been battling injuries recently, including the loss of a key member of their team for the season.

Kane displayed his power at the plate with a triple in each game and also pitched six strong innings in game two for a no-decision.

The junior standout, who leads his team in base hits, doubles and triples this spring, finished game one 3-for-4 and was 2-for-5 in game two.

He got the start on the hill in game two and gave up just two hits and one walk while striking out nine.

According to Hoopa head coach Aaron Williams, game two was a pitchers’ duel.

“Allen wanted the ball before the game and he pitched a great game,” Williams said.

Lyle McKinnon got the win in relief, throwing four innings of one-hit ball and striking out 10.

Keyton Gulley, Brandon Romero and Brian Richards each also had a base hit for Hoopa to round out a six-hit team performance.

The home team had a good game at the plate in the opener, giving their pitcher, Romero, plenty of offensive support.

Richards matched Kane with three hits in the win and also drove in three runs, while Romero helped his own cause with a pair of doubles.

Gulley also had a double, while freshman Owen Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Another freshman, Delmer Ferris, also had two hits in the win, as did McKinnon, while Carlos Anzora finished 1-for-3.

Romero pitched all six innings and gave up six hits and one walk, while striking out 11.

With the two wins, the Warriors improved to 8-5.

Several players have been limited recently for the Warriors, while catcher Cher-geesh Mace is done of the year after picking up an injury.
