The Eureka Loggers got back to wining ways in boys soccer with a 2-1 win at South Fork on Friday evening.
Just three days after a tough loss to Arcata, the Eureka boys started Friday’s game slowly but grew into the game on their way to securing two valuable league points.
“It took us a while to get settled into the game,” head coach Tommy Learmouth said. “But in the second half, I thought we settled in and played well.”
Once again the Eureka seniors played key roles for the team.
Trenton Gerber netted the go-ahead goal off of an assist from fellow senior Will Mooney and the Loggers led 1-0 at the break.
Isaiah Herbst put the visitors ahead 2-0 after the break.

The home team would cut the deficit in half with a late penalty kick, but the Loggers were able to hold on down the stretch.
No scoring details were available for South Fork.
“South Fork looked good,” Learmouth said. “Going down there, it’s a tough place to play. They played hard and they showed great sportsmanship.”
With the win, the Loggers improved to 2-2 in league play to keep pressure on the frontrunners.

And it was a win they’ll gladly take.
“I felt like we didn’t play our best today, especially in the first half,” the coach added. “We started to find some passing in the second half. We stopped trying to play the long ball and linked some passes together.”
In addition to the ever-consistent senior trio of Gerber, Mooney and Makai Dennon, outside backs Lucas Ask and Junior Patino both also performed well for the visitors.
Ask, according to his coach, has been playing “extremely well” as the freshman quickly adapts to the high school level.
Next up, the Loggers host Fortuna on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
