The Humboldt Crabs began a new era on Tuesday night when they played their first Pacific Empire league game.
The local collegiate summer club traveled to Lincoln to play the Potters and fell 8-5.
The home team rallied from an early three-run deficit with five runs in the bottom of the second inning and would hold on after that.
There was no shortage of offensive production, with the two teams combining for 24 base hits, including 11 by the Crabs.
However, the two clubs also combined for nine errors, including four by the Crabs.
Six different Crabs players hit successfully.
Troy Harding led the way at the plate and finished 3-for-4, while Jett Ruby, Billy Ham and Ethan Rivera each had two hits.
Javier Felix continued his impressive summer with the team with a double, his fourth on the summer.
Sean Carey got the start on the hill and took the loss.
The Folsom native threw three innings and gave up six runs on eight hits while striking out two.
Eureka’s Hayden Bode continued to impress out of the bullpen and threw two scoreless innings to close out the game, while allowing one hit and no walks and striking out one.
The loss ended a seven-game winning streak for the Crabs.
The two clubs will continue their three-game series on Wednesday night, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m.
All of the Crabs games are streamed live on the club’s YouTube page and broadcast live on local ESPN affiliate KATA 1340 AM and 107.3 FM.
