By Ray Hamill — After two years playing multiple sports at College of the Redwoods, sophomore Molly Slayton is taking her talents to a four-year program to continue her volleyball career.

The former Del Norte Warrior will join Tabor College in Kansas, an NAIA school.

And she will be missed after four successful seasons playing both volleyball and basketball for the Corsairs.

Slayton was a key member of the 2023 CR volleyball team and helped lead the Corsairs to their first conference wins in five years.

“She was a great sophomore leader,” CR volleyball head coach Kayla Costello said. “She really brought great energy and great leadership and she was willing to do whatever was necessary. And she’s a great student.”

The 2022 Del Norte graduate played setter for the CR volleyball team and received an all-conference honorable mention in her sophomore season.

But it was her determination that really caught the eye of her coaches.

“She was our only setter,” Costello added. “And she was head strong in a positive way. She’s super determined and she just wanted to be a great teammate.”

CR basketball coach Jain Tuey also paid tribute to Slayton’s contributions during her two years playing for her.

“I’m thrilled for this next chapter for Molly,” Tuey said. “She is such a hard worker and has been an integral part of our team’s success these last two years.”

Tuey believes Slayton has the tools to succeed at the next level.

“She was a true leader on and off the court and I know she’ll bring those qualities to her team next year,” the head coach added. “I’m so proud of Molly and her resilience to push through injuries. I wish her the best of luck.”

Last season, the Tabor College Bluejays finished with an overall record of 15-13 and were 6-7 in conference play.

The Bluejays compete in the the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
