Senior Tyson Bragg hit a grand slam to lead the McKinleyville Panthers to a doubleheader sweep in baseball at University Prep on Saturday.
With his team trailing by three runs in game two, Bragg hit his first home run of the season in the top of the third to key a five-run inning on the way to a 10-5 victory.
“We kind of never looked back after that,” head coach Mike Dobrec said.
Earlier in the day, the Panthers took game one 10-0.
With the two victories, the McKinleyville boys improved to 4-2 on the young season.
Branson Dobrec got the win on the mound in game one, allowing just five hits and two walks in a complete game and striking out four.
The senior pitcher got plenty of help from his offense and defense, with eight Mack players accounting for 16 base hits and the team making plays on defense.
Jackson Kelly led the way at the plate and finished 3-for-5, while Riles Egbert also had a good day at the plate and was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Rhythm Green also was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Tenoch Tapia and Hunter Carper each was 2-for-4.
Bryce Sargent added two hits, while Bragg, Evan Fraser and Ruger Baxter each also had a base hit to round out a productive performance for the visitors.
The McKinleyville bats continued to impress in game two, led by Bragg, who finished 2-for-4 with the grand slam.
Green, a freshman, also continued to impress at the plate and finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Tapia was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Carper went 2-for-2.
Kelly added a base hit to round out a 10-hit team performance.
Kelly and Carper split time on the mound.

Kelly threw four innings and struck out four, while Carper, a freshman, struck out six in three innings.
“We played good team baseball on Saturday,” Mike Dobrec said. “In the first game, the defense was behind Branson. We made plays behind him.”
Egbert also had a good day behind the plate in warm conditions, catching 10 of the 14 innings.
“He played impressive behind the dish,” his coach said.
The Panthers will try to keep their impressive start to the season going when they travel south for a pair of non-tournament games against Ukiah and Cloverdale on Saturday.
