Several local teams took full advantage of the warm weather this weekend as they continue to build momentum ahead of the upcoming Big 5 and Little 4 schedules in baseball and softball.
The South Fork and Del Norte boys both stretched their winning streaks to four straight.
The Cubs swept a non-tournament doubleheader against San Domenico in Miranda, winning 10-5 and 20-5.
The Warriors won all three of their games at this weekend’s Yreka tournament, beating the host school 3-0 in the final, thanks to an outstanding performance by Preston Daniels on the mound.
The Eureka boys were also in action this weekend, splitting a doubleheader down south.
The Loggers lost to Analy 4-3 but comfortably beat Santa Rosa 19-2.
The Fortuna boys were in action at the Fort Bragg tournament, where they went 1-2 over the two days.
They opened with a 10-1 win over Point Arena, before losing 12-2 to Fort Bragg and 6-5 to Durham in an exciting extra-innings game.
One day after losing a one-run game at Foothill, the McKinleyville boys swept a non-tournament doubleheader at University Prep on Saturday.
The Panthers won 10-0 and 10-5 and are now 4-2.
In local softball, meanwhile, the Del Norte girls won two games at the Anderson tournament on Saturday.
The Warriors defeated Central Valley 8-1 and West Valley 7-3.
The Fortuna and McKinleyville girls did not play on Saturday, but both were in action on Friday.
The Huskies split a non-tournament doubleheader at Fort Bragg, with both games decided by a single run.
Fortuna won the opener 9-8 before losing game two 7-6.
The Panthers lost a non-tournament game at Tamalpais 5-4.
