An impressive early season continued for the South Fork baseball team on Saturday, as the Cubs swept a doubleheader against San Domenico in Miranda.
The Cubs took game one 10-5 and won game two 20-5 and are now 4-1 with four straight wins.
Justin Freitas continued his fast start to the new season with another big day.
The senior team captain is “seeing the ball really well,” according to head coach Chris Contreras, and he finished 2-for-4 in game one with a three-run home run, which was his second of the young season.
He also had a double and scored two runs, while driving in four runs.
Chris Pedaris also has impressed early and finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and a run, while Lucas Genolio impressed on the mound on his way to the victory.
“I’m very happy with his constant consistency,” Contreras said of Genolio, who threw six innings of one-hit ball and struck out 11.
Daniel Furhman pitched the seventh inning and threw just six pitches to close out the game.
In game two, the home team quickly took control with 10 runs in the first inning and 10 more in the second, as the visitors began to run out of pitching.
Broc Contreras led the way at the plate and finished 3-for-3 with three doubles, four runs and three RBIs.
Freitas again made his presence felt at the plate and was 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple, as well as adding a walk and three RBIs.

Pedaris went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Genolio was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs.
Furhman got the start on the mound and threw two innings for the win with two strikeouts.
“We were very pleased to walk away with two (North Coast Section) division wins this weekend,” Chris Contreras said. “It all comes down to trying to make the playoffs and I think this team is heading in the right direction.
“It’s still way early and we still have a lot of work to do, but I’m happy with the performance today.”
