Fortuna boys travel for Fort Bragg tournament, go 1-2

Drew Franklin and the Fortuna Huskies pushed Durham all the way in their final game at the Fort Bragg baseball tournament on Saturday, before falling 6-5 in extra innings.

Franklin, who has impressed on the mound and at the plate early in the season, did not allow any earned runs in seven innings.

With the loss, the Huskies closed out tournament play 1-2.

They opened the two-day tourney with a 10-1 win over Point Arena, before falling 12-2 to Fort Bragg in their second game.

The Fortuna bats racked up 12 hits against Point Arena and five players finished with multiple hits.

Franklin was 2-for-3 with a home run, while Tyler Schlesiger went 2-for-3 and Kallen Barrote was 2-for-4.

Chad Mussey and Hunter Reback each also had two hits, while Mariquis Ludd and Chandler Crenshaw each added a base hit.

Junior Nathan Cleek got the win on the mound.

The Huskies finished with six hits against Fort Bragg, one each by Mussey, Reback, Ludd, Crenshaw, Franklin and Caden Lewis.

Crenshaw and Lewis scored the team’s runs, with RBIs by Mussey and Franklin.

Mussey and Crenshaw continued to impress at the plate in Saturday’s tourney finale and each had a pair of hits, as did Ludd.

Franklin, Schlesiger and Blane Barrote each also had a hit in the loss.
